Editing and Consultation Services
Developmental Editing
A developmental edit looks at the big picture and overall framework of your text and makes sure your manuscript communicates clearly and thoroughly to your intended audience. This edit is done after an author has completed a self-edit and made revisions from their early draft or drafts. The developmental edit looks at voice, structure, organization of thoughts, characterization, and progression and pacing and aims to identify and eliminate any holes or missing elements within your text. We will also provide you with an editorial report that explains the how and the why of our edits and may also provide you with recommendations on how you can continue to enhance your manuscript. A developmental edit includes two editorial passes.
A developmental edit is where your masterpiece really starts to emerge. If you aren’t sure if you’re ready for a developmental edit, contact us and we can discuss you best next step.
While we make the edits and suggestions, the decision on whether to accept or reject edits is ultimately yours. Our job is to work with you to give you a strong and beautiful manuscript and to preserve your unique writing voice, all while making it look like we were never there.

A copy edit tightens your text by removing extraneous words or repetition and makes sure that the manuscript is consistent (font, term usage, layout, etc.) while preserving your unique voice. This edit is done only after you are confident in the overall flow, structure, and telling of your manuscript’s content. A copy edit does not look at developmental or content issues. Each copy edit includes two editorial passes.

This stage does not address developmental flow, style, or word choice, yet it is crucial for ensuring clarity and professionalism in your work. A proofread is always a good idea!
